Lotus anuncia su LMP2 y GT2

Le Mans: Importantes proyectos de Lotus en resistencia

Lotus Motorsport ha informado este Martes de sus ambiciosos proyectos deportivos a corto y medio plazo y que deberían devolver al otrora exitoso constructor británico, ahora propiedad de Proton, a la primera línea del automovilismo.

Gracias, entre otros factores, a su principal responsable deportivo, el italiano Claudio Berro, Lotus ha dado a conocer de importantes programas deportivos tanto en competiciones de resistencia como de monoplazas. En resistencia Lotus tiene previsto desarrollar un nuevo LMP2 cerrado, que diseñado por Paolo Catone debería estar listo para rodar por primera vez en pista a finales de 2011 y que debutaría en las 24 horas de Le Mans de 2012. Al mismo tiempo un nuevo GT2, también acorde a la nueva normativa del Automobile Club de l'Ouest, es la apuesta de Lotus en lo referente a los coches de producción. En principio Lotus homologaría su Evora - ahora ya existente en especificaciones GT4- para GT2 y GT3 además de seguir construyendo el actual GT4 visto este pasado fin de semana en el Campeonato de España de GT, el certamen de GT Sport, y pilotado por Gianni Giudici.

Sin duda alguna dos iniciativas realmente atractivas pero que no serán las únicas, puesto que desarrollarán importantes labores de ingeniería apoyando a KV Racing en la Indycar y ART en GP2 y GP3, en lo referente a competiciones de monoplazas.

Lotus ha mostrado su nuevo T124 Evora en su variante GT el cual es una evolucion de su actual T124 GT4 y que ademas servirá de base para construir el Lotus GT2/GTE que participará este año en el ILMC (el encargado de ponerlo en pista sera el equipo Jet Alliance que ha pasado a ser el equipo de fabrica de Lotus). Esta diseñado por Nicola Scimeca en conjunto con Lotus Motorsport y trae un motor Toyota 2GR-FE V6 de 4 litros desarrollado por Cosworth que produce unos 440bhp, poder que es transmitido a sus ruedas traseras por medio de su caja secuencial Xtrac 426 de 6 velocidades.

Ademas de la ILMC y las 24 Horas de Le Mans, Lotus Motorsport tiene intenciones de participar este año en otras carreras tipo endurance europeas inciando con las 24 Horas de Nurburgring, las 24 Horas de Spa y por ultimo en las 24 Horas de Silverstone por el mes de octubre. Eso si tienen planeado venir el proximo año al continente americano a correr las 24 Horas de Daytona, esto gracias a que los actuales reglamentos que unicamente permiten chasises tubulares basados en el Riley MK XXIV pasarán a la historia y ahora le darán paso al formato FIA GT3, aparte de Daytona tambien se sumaran a la lista de participantes en las 24 Horas de Dubai.

Evora Enduro - GT Concept
The Evora Enduro GT concept car is an evolved version of the podium placing Evora GT4 Endurance. The Enduro has been developed by Lotus Motorsport under the expert eye of Lead Designer Nicola Scimeca

The Enduro will be the base point from which the GT2/GTE homologated cars for FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) and ACO (l'Automobile Club de l'Ouest) endurance racing will be built.

Lotus Motorsport intend to contend the following endurance events this year:

23 – 26 June 2011 Nürburgring ADAC 24 Hour Race (GER)
28 – 31 July 2011 Spa 24 Hour Race (BEL)
8 & 9 October 2011 Silverstone 24 Hour Race (GB)

The 24 hour races in Dubai and Daytona are on the list for 2012.

The Evora Enduro can be bought by private individuals and adapted for racing.

Por otro lado yo había leído que lo que daba eran 395 HP y no 440, pero en esa página no mencionaban que fuera manoseado por Cosworth... ya me quedé picado.

Lotus covers over 1000km of testing



The car that will take Lotus back to the Le Mans 24 Hours has completed more than 1,000km of testing ahead of its public debut at Sunday's Le Mans Test Day.

The new Evora developed for the GTE class (formerly GT2) was given a shakedown at Lotus's Hethel test track 10 days ago. It continued racking up the miles at Snetterton last week and again at Hethel early this week.

Lotus Motorsport boss Claudio Berro said: "The car has completed more than 1,000km (620 miles) without any major problems. We are happy so far."

Lotus test and development driver James Rossiter, who has undertaken the bulk of the testing with the GTE class Evora so far, said: "We were running until about 10pm last night and everything is going well. The good thing is that the car seems to be reliable."

The first Evora will be present at the Le Mans Test Day with the Austrian Jetalliance team, which is representing Lotus in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup this season.

Lotus returns to Le Mans


The make first raced at Le Mans in 1955. The Lotus 9 of Ron Fockhart and the firm’s founder Colin Chapman led before being disqualified on Lap 99.

The make has raced at Le Mans 14 times but never won. Of the 41 cars that have started the French classic, 16 have finished. The last time was in 1997 with a GT1 Elise.

This year, the ACO’s selection committee has invited two Lotus Evora GTEs. The car was designed by Nicola Scimeca and Lotus Motorsport, and is based on the T124 GT4 (aluminium chassis, Coworth/Toyota 440hp V6, six-speed sequential Xtrac gearbox).

The Lotus Evora GTE was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and has already run at Snetterton and at the Lotus track at Hethel. It is reported to have covered 1,000km without any major problems. Two cars have been entered by the Austrian team for Le Mans and for the forthcoming rounds of the ILMC.
