según entiendo no anduvieron muy altas porque estaba bastante nublado y hasta con amenaza de lluvia. Para el domingo se pronostica un 60% de probabilidades de que aparezca la doña de los frescos...

bueno tratando de enfocarnos de alguna manera en la carrera, aquí están los comentarios de algunos pilotos después del viernes...


3 . A. Sutil - Force India Mercedes VJM02
"Hoy ha ido bien y estoy contento de cómo ha funcionado el coche. Es una sorpresa ser tercero en la segunda libre, pero ha sido una buena sesión y es nuestra mejor posición de este un viernes. Hemos llevado a cabo nuestro programa, con muchas evaluaciones de neumáticos que parecen ir bien en salidas largas. Los blandos se van un poco de atrás, pero seguramente el domingo irán bien, así que no nos preocupa. No creo que sea realista esperar estar en tercer puesto en calificación, pero todo está funcionando perfectamente y me siento optimista, creo que podremos volver a estar en la Q2. Si lo conseguimos, estaremos muy satisfechos."

5 . F. Alonso - Renault R29
" Ha sido un viernes habitual para nosotros. Necesitamos mejorar el coche, pero estamos bastante contentos con el resultado en la segunda sesión de libres. Sin embargo, sabemos que la lucha será muy dura en la sesión de calificación de mañana y que una o dos décimas de segundo pueden marcar la diferencias. Así que vamos a intentar encontrar algo más de rendimiento en el coche, alguna décima extra que aumente nuestro potencial, pero aún así hoy hemos trabajado en la dirección correcta."

7 . L. Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes MP4-24
"Me ha costado un poco acostumbrarme al coche esta mañana. Parecía algo distinto de cómo ha ido en las carreras anteriores. En general, estoy contento con la estabilidad pero, con un coche modificado en un circuito de alta velocidad como este, se tarda un poco más de lo habitual en encontrar los límites. No es ningún secreto que nos falta velocidad en las secciones más rápidas, pero el coche no ha ido mal hoy. Hemos hecho algunos cambios en los reglajes y ahora parece ser bastante constante, pero ya es uno de los mejores fines de semana del año para mí porque estoy en mi Gran Premio de casa y los aficionados de aquí son increíbles. He visto y sentido su apoyo desde la primera vuelta que he dado hoy."

8 . J. Trulli - Toyota TF109
"He tenido dos sesiones sin problemas y he llevado a cabo el programa habitual, evaluando los distintos compuestos de neumáticos y probando los diferentes reglajes. El coche funciona bastante bien pero, como de costumbre, hace mucho viento en Silverstone y eso hace que sea difícil establecer los reglajes del coche porque las condiciones cambian en cada vuelta. Solo tenemos que mejorar la velocidad un poco para mañana. Sigo siendo optimista."

10 . N.Piquet - Renault R29
" Ha sido un día intenso y en el que hemos avanzado mucho trabajo, incluida las habituales evaluación de neumáticos y la puesta a punto. Como siempre en Silverstone, ha hecho bastante viento, pero no nos ha causado demasiados problemas y hemos logrado mejorar un poco el coche, especialmente por la tarde. También hemos probado los nuevos desarrollos para este fin de semana, incluido el nuevo alerón delantero. Ahora disponemos de mucha información antes de la última sesión de libres de mañana."

11 . R. Kubica - BMW Sauber F1.09
"Ha sido un día difícil para mí. Por la mañana tuve problemas con la electrónica del coche que me impidieron hacer una salida en condiciones. Después, al principio de la segunda libre, el motor perdía potencia. Muchas gracias a los mecánicos, que han hecho un trabajo fantástico y lo han solucionado en muy poco tiempo. Eso significa que al menos he tenido la oportunidad de hacer dos salidas sin problemas por la tarde y trabajar un poco con los reglajes."

12 . H. Kovalainen - McLaren Mercedes MP4-24
"En primer lugar, es fantástico volver a Silverstone porque es un circuito que me encanta. El año pasado logré la pole position y disfruto mucho rodando aquí. Sabemos que nos enfrentamos a un fin de semana más duro esta temporada porque nos falta adherencia, pero la estabilidad del coche no era demasiado mala esta mañana. Como Lewis está rodando sin KERS este fin de semana, ahora debemos analizar los dos coches y ver qué haremos el resto del fin de semana. Sigue siendo difícil decir si es una ventaja rodar con el KERS, pero creo que he logrado una buena ventaja con este sistema. Este fin de semana habrá que desarrollar el coche y ver qué diferencia supone para mi ritmo y el de Lewis. Todo el equipo está presionando al máximo y comprendemos mejor el funcionamiento del coche. Pase lo que pase, aprenderemos muchas cosas útiles sobre el coche este fin de semana."

13 . T. Glock - Toyota TF109
"En conjunto ha sido un comienzo razonable para nosotros. Hemos hecho bastantes vueltas y evaluado distintos reglajes. No hemos tenido problemas graves pero hay cosas en las que tenemos que trabajar antes de la calificación para sacarle el máximo partido al coche. La estabilidad no es la ideal de momento, pero tenemos la oportunidad de mejorar mañana por la mañana. Si se mira lo que ocurrió en Turquía, donde dimos un gran paso adelante el sábado por la mañana, creo que podemos tener esperanzas para la carrera."

On his second visit to a Formula One paddock in three races, Jacques Villeneuve on Friday confirmed he is in talks to return to the sport next year.

The 1997 world champion was also spotted recently at Monaco, and on Friday at Silverstone admitted he is finding the political situation ‘really entertaining’.

It is likely his enthusiasm is spurred on by the plethora of cockpits that a Formula One split, or minimally the arrival of some new teams, would generate.

"Definitely a split would be damaging," he agreed.

French-Canadian Villeneuve, now 38 and having last raced for BMW Sauber in 2006, said he would be open to seeing FOTA's plans but, if he could choose, would align "with the series run by Bernie (Ecclestone).

"

He said he would like to see the dispute settled as quickly as possible. "So I can plan for the future," Villeneuve told Auto Motor und Sport. "Next year I definitely want to be back in a single seater.

"At the moment everyone is waiting to see what happens, but I am already in talks with several teams," he revealed.

Max Mosley on Friday said he expects the British Grand Prix to remain at Silverstone beyond this weekend's event.

The race is due to switch to Donington next year, and even if the alternate venue is not ready, eternal Silverstone critic and F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone insists the series is not going to return to Northamptonshire.

But FIA President Mosley told the BBC at Silverstone: "I think the chance of there not being a British Grand Prix next year is very small, and my personal view - and it's not for me to decide - is that it is highly probable it will be at Silverstone."

The Formula One circus is ruing the fact that Sunday may be the last F1 race at popular Silverstone, which hosted the first ever modern world championship event in 1950.

But former driver Mark Blundell raises the prospect that, amid the spectre of a breakaway series, "this time next year we might have two top motor sport events in this country."

"One at Donington Park and one at Silverstone," he wrote in his Telegraph column.

"The one taking place here might be a Grand Prix rather than a Formula One Grand Prix, but we will just have to wait and see."

Felipe Massa (17th, 1:21.005): "I am not very happy with the way these two free practice sessions went. The track was rather dirty and the wind also had an effect. We didn't manage to find the right way to go to improve the balance of the car. There is definitely a lot of work awaiting us in preparation for qualifying, where the most realistic target at the moment is to get into the top ten."

Kimi Raikkonen (18th, 1:21.132): "Difficult to say where we are in respect to the others: we will have to wait for tomorrow's qualifying to find out. Clearly, looking at today's results, we are definitely not in for an easy weekend. The car's not bad in terms of balance, but doesn't seem to be quick enough. The tyres are the same as in Turkey, but of course it is much cooler here: on the first lap, the performance between the two types is quite different, but then over a longer run, they tend to be similar. As predicted, there's a wind blowing on the track, but it's not as damaging as I'd expected."

Stefano Domenicali, Team Principal: "It is always difficult to interpret the results of Friday free practice, as we don't know what schedule the other teams are working to. We knew the characteristics of this track would not be ideally suited to our car and now we have to try and analyse all our data from these three hours to see how to improve our performance. We can expect a difficult weekend, but we will do our best, as usual, to bring home a good result."

Chris Dyer: "We had a few little problems on both cars: nothing particularly serious but enough to slow us down in completing the programme we had planned for the two drivers. We have various new components on the F60 and now we will have to analyse the car's behaviour to try and tackle a weekend that certainly looks like being a tough one, in the best way possible."

Sebastien Bourdais (16th, 1:20.945): "We ran the two cars with very different settings: I was fairly happy with mine and when I tried Buemi's I didn't like it all, so we went back to our first choice and it was better again, so that gives us a clear indication of which direction we should go in. As for the usual Friday tyre comparison, we've got an accurate picture from today's data. We still lack pace, but it looks better than Turkey and we just have to continue getting the most out of our current package until our major update comes along."

Sebastien Buemi (20th, 1:21.668): "I didn't have such a good day and that was because I did not really find my way with the car set-up on this circuit and the whole thing didn't really come together for me. I tried a different approach to my team-mate, but I think we will end up going in the direction that he took, as it seemed to work better and that should help me make the best of tomorrow. The tyre comparison went well, nothing went wrong with the car and, looking at Bourdais' lap time, I think we can be more competitive than in Turkey, but I need to improve a lot."


Red Bull-Renault

Sebastian Vettel (1st, 1:19.456): "Overall I think it was a good day for both of us. I don't know what happened to Mark at the end of the second session, but otherwise it was a smooth run through the programme. We were able to do a lot of laps and collect a lot of data. The new parts that we brought here seem to be working well, which is a good sign, but on a Friday it's always difficult to know how quick we really are. I think we've made a step forward though and, just like our team slogan Red Bull Gives You Wings, I think they helped us today for our performance on track."

Mark Webber (2nd, 1:19.597): "It's been a pretty good day for us; we've tried a few new bits here, which seem to be going pretty well. We've tried both sets of tyres and need to go through all the data tonight. My second session ended a little early as I hit a kerb on Turn five, which caused the car's electronics to stop. Silverstone is a spectacular circuit and always has been - it's phenomenal to drive it in a Formula One car. I was lucky enough to talk to some of the fans when I stopped on the track and they said the car was looking incredible, so it's nice to see that they're enjoying what we're doing."


Williams-Toyota

Kazuki Nakajima (4th, 1:20.209): "Today's sessions went well for us. I was caught up in quite a bit of traffic in the early runs, but managed to get some clear air later on. We tried many different set-ups with the car; some of which were quite interesting, so we now need to look at the data in preparation for tomorrow's qualifying."

Nico Rosberg (9th, 1:20.468): "We tried a few things, especially with the car's aerodynamics, and we definitely learned a lot. The wind made things quite difficult though so it wasn't so straightforward to find the right set-up direction today, but we made the best of it. It's always a compromise between the quick corners in the first sector and the slow corners in the last sector. Tyre-wise, maybe the option isn't quite as good as we would have hoped, but it's still the better tyre here."

Sam Michael, Technical Director: "That was a good Friday session. We ran through lots of checks with the new parts we've brought here for this race. We'll go through the data tonight, but everything is working well. We also completed our usual tyre evaluations and cooling checks."


Force India-Mercedes

Adrian Sutil (3rd, 1:20.141): "Today went well as I was happy with the car the whole day. It was a bit surprising to be third in FP2, but it was a really good session, the best position so far this year on a Friday. We ran through our programme, doing a lot of tyre work and the long runs seem to be quite OK. The soft option goes off a little in the rear but should be fine on Sunday, so no real worries there. I don't think it's realistic to expect us to be third for qualifying, but everything is working really well and I am quite confident about making it through to Q2 again. If we can do this again we'd be quite satisfied."

Giancarlo Fisichella (19th, 1:21.413): "This morning was OK and we had some good runs, and the lap time was not bad. This afternoon however I was suffering with oversteer and we made some small changes, but in the end with the new tyres I was suffering with understeer. It wasn't such a great FP2 but the potential is there as Adrian has set a really good time. I think tomorrow we should go in the top 15 in qualifying."

Dominic Harlow, Chief Race Engineer: "It was nice to see Adrian close to the top of the times this afternoon, and we've generally been pleased with today's sessions. The team has worked very well today and being so close to the HQ really spurs us on. It was very windy, and that affected the cars' balance this afternoon with a tendency to oversteer being the result. We ran our usual programme to understand the tyre behaviour and we will have to analyse the data thoroughly this evening. The cars ran reliably through more than two race distances over both sessions and we're looking forward to another good qualifying session tomorrow."


Brawn-Mercedes

Rubens Barrichello (6th, 1:20.244): "We had a reasonable day and made some good progress on the balance particularly in the second session. There is a lot of work ahead for us tonight however and the pace of our closest competitors was impressive which we need to have a look at. We will have to see what tomorrow will bring but hopefully the track will come towards us and we can have a good day."

Jenson Button (14th, 1:20.767): "We tried a few different evaluations with the aero today and initially struggled as I had no grip in either the high or low speed corners. The wind also really affected the car's performance today. We made improvements towards the end of the afternoon session so we have some good information to look at tonight to try and make further progress before qualifying."

Ross Brawn, Team Principal: "The track evolution this morning and the strong winds have combined to make the cars quite difficult to work with today and it has been something of a challenge to achieve our planned programme. However this afternoon's session was more productive with both Jenson and Rubens giving similar feedback on the characteristics of their cars. We will go through all the information carefully this evening but the data gathered this afternoon should give us the right direction on the set-up and aero configuration required for qualifying tomorrow."

Pero en vista del actual despapaye de la F1 no les parece que sería bien sabroso que el primer evento de la Fórmula Rebelde fuera en Silvesrtone tal como lo fue el primer GP de la F1 :?: Eso sería un buen toque para arrancar con clase y de paso darle una cachetada a los mandamases que se han llevado la F1 entre las patas en los últimos años después de haberle hecho mucho bien en el pasado...



Donington will deliver promises Gillett
“We're confident we will be there for 2010”

Simon Gillett, the promoter of the 2010 British Grand Prix at Donington, was on enemy ground as he walked the Silverstone paddock on Friday.

Silverstone is disappointed to have lost its rights to the Formula One race in favour of Gillett's 17-year Donington deal, and on Thursday the BRDC was making it clear it hopes the plans fail and Bernie Ecclestone wants the existing host to stage the 2010 race.

But although F1's Chief Executive has assured Gillett that F1 is prepared to wait a year for the Donington plans to materialise, Gillett on Friday insisted that the race will take place in Leicestershire next summer.

"Right now, we're on track," revealing that financing for the £100m rejuvenation project will be finalised by the end of July.

In March, funding source Goldman Sachs pulled out amid the global financial crisis, but Gillett insists alternatives are being put in place.

"Last week we broke ground on the pits and paddock," he reported. "Will we be ready for next year? I know we will, absolutely, 100 percent for definite.

"Bernie has given us a safety net, and it's a hell of a safety net, but we're confident we will be there for 2010," said Gillett.
