To answer a few comments:
Funny Wing
The rear wing is in fact a factory BMW Motorsport LTW 'R' rear wing. We could have gone with an aftermarket part but we decided to keep with the 'spirit' of the class which is to use original parts as would be found on these cars. BMW offered the e36 LTW street cars with this wing with two options of extension blocks to raise the height of the wing. We are using the Race height extensions like on the blue car below vs. the street extensions like on the white car below. Both cars are factory built.
Funny Number Color
The color is as one person mentioned it is the same color as the light blue in the 'M' logo. We are using the factory 'M-Motorsport' flags on the car which are slightly modified replacing the red with silver since we have a red car. We wanted the silver color but none of the vinyl companies that make numbers had the color so that left purple or the blue and we thought the blue would be more fun anyway!
Car not meeting the rules
The car is 100% legal for the ST class, in fact we are unable to get the car light enough for the class and need to remove more weight. We have been fully inspected and both our engine and transmission are sealed by Promotor. Further we are unable to take advantage of the AEM fuel injection allowed by the rules because AEM does not support BMW, so we are only able to use the original fuel injection at a further disadvantage.

RACE REPORT
As most of you know by now, we finally raced the BMW this past weekend. All in all it was a successful weekend since we were able to run in every single race and qualifying session. Here is the weekend details:
Friday
We arrived at the track at 8:30 and quickly unloaded the car and got organized. We waited for out turn to go out and I got strapped into the car. I did my first lap warming up the tires before I pushed the car on the second. I was just behind one of the Valverde Nissans and was determined to follow him around the track to determine how competitive we would be. After one lap I was keeping up with him until I exited turn one under power and the car made a large noise and I lost 90% of the power to the wheels. I brought the car to the pits. We quickly determined the clutch had a problem (again!) and pulled the transmission. What we found is that the disc had lost all the friction material one one side. Obviously we were not going to be able to continue to run an organic disc. A few phone calls were made and we found a shop willing to modify the disk to run ceramic pucks and would do it that day! So the Khajavi Mostorports team worked late into the night to replace the disk.
Saturday
We arrived back to the track at 6:30AM, the mechanics were sleepy, but the car was ready. We made some minor alignment changes based on the one lap I had the previous day and I suited up. The first time on the track would be for qualifying the car. There is nothing like qualifying an untested car, with an untested clutch! We qualified with a time of 1:45 which is not very good but the clutch held together. More importantly we got some time on the track to make more adjustments to the suspension and tire pressures. We finally were able to weigh the car.....2730# with driver!! We are exactly 100# overweight. The good news is that the corner weights of the car are 49.8% or almost perfectly balanced! We will have to work on the weight problem though! So we made our adjustments and got ready for the race. During the race we started to lose 3rd gear syncros (started grinding 3rd) but by slowing down the shifts were able to keep it from grinding too much. We finished toward the back but not last! We made some more adjustments to the car and were now doing 1:43 times. We all left at 4:00PM to get some good sleep.
Sunday
We got to the track at 7:00AM and got the car ready, it was going to be a very busy day. One practice session followed by three races! So we practiced and made a few more adjustments to the car and got ready for the race. For the race we now had a better idea how to properly launch the car and had a better start than the previous day. During the race we did a 1:41 lap time, that is a good improvement from 1:45s the day before! The idea was to better our position and keep the car together as the transmission was worsening and we did not want to lose 3rd all together. As hoped we were able to gain one more position despite losing the brakes four laps into the race. On lap four entering into the braking zone before the 'S's the brake pedal went to the floor. I was barely able to keep the car under control. I decided to continue, having to pump the brakes and adjust the braking time to stay under control. We were able to overtake another car driven by Roy Chavez but without brakes were unable to pass him before the end of the race. Despite all this we were able to take one more position. Back in the pits we found the brake problem quickly....we broke the rear/left brake line completely. There was almost no fluid left in the system as I was pumping it out lap after lap. A few more laps and I would not have been able to stop at all. We did not have a spare. A BMW friend at the track offered his 00' 320i as a donor but the lines were different. A frantic search of the pits was not successful and with 20 mins remaining before the final race we decided to weld the fitting and simply block the line so we could finish the race! With the car band-aided back together and with no time to properly bleed the system we lined up for the race. I did the best I could with a very soft brake pedal from air in the lines, the failing 3rd gear and still not quite right suspension settings. We gained one more position and did consistent 1:43 times. For the final race we bleed the brakes, adjusted the shocks, and adjusted the suspension, added a little fuel and lined up! This was it and we wanted to gain a few positions and last to the end! We got a good start and held our position well for the first lap but with only three working brakes we were not 100% up to the task. Then after 3 laps the clutch started to slip. By the last few laps the clutch was badly slipping but we had caught up to another car that was also having problems. It was a good few final laps and we almost got him at the finish line (we were a few feet behind).
Summary
We now have a BMW race car! The car has potential and needs some changes to be faster. Here is our plan:
We did not want to cut the car up to lose weight but clearly we need to do so to get more weight off of her. So reluctantly we will start to cut her up this week as allowed by the rules.
The clutch has been nothing but problems for this car from day one. So we are going to spend lots of time on that to see what we can do.
The front brakes were warping after 4 laps and causing a very strong vibration. We will improve the brake cooling for next race. We will also carry spare brake lines!
The transmission needs to be changed! We need to see if there is a competent repair person in Costa Rica or we will buy a good used one.
We would like to change the 3.91 differential to a 4.11. This will make the last corner to the strait faster, now we are either to low in 4th or to high in 3rd.
We need to replace the engine with an aluminum block 2.5ltr. We were going to go to a 2.8ltr but it would not be competitive. We need help to find one.
Lastly we think the car as it is (with working clutch and brakes) can do 1:39s with some more track time and adjustments. This is fast but not fast enough to win.

Just one question? Why did your car driver enter really slow at the main straight???? I think you car driver was breaking a lot!.

We had the worst possible gear ratio for this section either rev limiter in 3rd or low RPM in 4th. No power either way entering the strait.

I have to calculate the gear ratio for speed as the digital dash was not calibrated for speed yet. I can tell you that on the last corner entering the front straight I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd at the apex or bogging the car in 4th.
I ended up using third but I had to take a slower entry speed to do it which really killed me on the straight. The ideal will be a shorter differential so I can use 4th and then get 5th earlier down the straight. This will also keep me from having to drop to 2nd for the 'S's and be able to stay in 3rd. The car is really slow exiting the 'S's as I have to go from 2nd to 3rd as I exit which really upsets the car.
Lastly I was not getting full grip all weekend because of a pretty nasty oil leak on the front of the engine which was getting on both the front and rear tires too!! The BMW should be one of the fastest cars on the high speed sweeping corners with it's long wheelbase and rear traction. We need more tuning time.
As to the weight question, I agree 100%. The weight factor should be 14:1 or even higher. Further cars should not be allowed to cut the original body without written approval and only in extreme cases (where they still can't get the weight down) should they be allowed to do so. Having to go with titanium and carbon fiber everywhere makes this more like GT3 than ST.

As always, any help needed let me know.
