DTM at Zandvoort - duel in the dunes
Following the successful 2011 season opener at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, the DTM is heading for The Netherlands for its second season round next weekend (May 13th - 15th). For the eleventh time in a row already, the Circuit Park Zandvoort in the dunes on the North Sea coast is hosting a round of the most popular international touring car series. This makes Zandvoort the DTM-event with the longest history outside of Germany. In the duel of Audi against Mercedes-Benz, it is a tie: in previous years, both manufacturers have succeeded in winning five of the ten DTM races held at Zandvoort so far.
The former Grand Prix circuit is popular with fans and drivers alike. The DTM stars appreciate the demanding lay-out of the track with its undulation and its fast sections - at Zandvoort, DTM cars are reaching the highest top speeds of the entire season. For the numerous visitors of the race, that is also frequented by many race fans from foreign countries, Zandvoort has many assets, too: the vast beach with its many leisure facilities is only minutes away from the race track while the centre of Zandvoort with a variety of restaurants and nice shops and boutiques can easily be reached, too.
Anyone looking for more international flair will certainly find something in the near-by Dutch capital of Amsterdam. A rich portfolio of cultural activities, the scenic canals, countless possibilities for shopping, hotels in all price ranges and restaurants with culinary specialties from all over the world hardly leave any wishes unfulfilled. And a special recommendation at this time of the year: a trip to the flower region, where tens of thousands of tulips are providing a colourful sight.
