The large makeshift hood scoop is clear proof that something special has been added to the engine - most likely a turbocharger given the recently turbocharged MazdaSpeed6. The MazdaSpeed6 turbocharges the 2.3-liter four-cylinder, resulting in 274 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, which necessitated a switch to an AWD drivetrain.
UYYYY que ganas de ver por aqui un MazdaSpeed 3!!! El Mazdaspeed 6 es un chuzo, pero que tuanis un tratamiento similar para el 3 que es más liviano y compacto... Están lindos los aros del de la foto por cierto. Obviamente que la toma de aire va a ser decente en el futuro...

Hot on the heels of the Mazda 6 MPS that debuted in September at the Paris Auto Show (and goes on sale in North America next year as the MazdaSpeed 6), an MPS version of the popular Mazda 3 compact sedan and hatchback is expected to go on sale in 2006.
Powered by a detuned version of the turbocharged 2.3 liter direct injection engine found in the 6 MPS, the 3 MPS would go head to head with competitors such as the Subaru WRX and the all-new fifth generation Volkswagen GTI. Expect this hot 3 to have around 220 horsepower powering the front wheels. In what is surely an attempt to distance the 3 MPS from the 6 MPS in both price and performance, all wheel drive will not be available. While this may disappoint some enthusiasts, it does mean less weight and cost – important considerations in the sport compact arena.
If previous MPS and MazdaSpeed models are any indication, the 3 will offer more than a mere power upgrade. Styling enhancements, better brakes and suspension, and more chassis bracing are all expected to be part of the package. We predict that this model will be available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, but it is not known if the MPS version will be available as a sedan, hatchback, or perhaps both.
Like the 6 MPS, this car will come to North America badged as a MazdaSpeed model. While it is too early to make accurate pricing predictions, we would guess that it will have a base price of around $23,000 USD when it comes to North America in 2006.

Mazda3 MPS en Ginebra

Mazda presentará en el Salón de Ginebra, dentro de pocas semanas, una variante deportiva de su compacto, el Mazda3.
Esta variante, muy reclamada entre el público, parece que vendrá a conquistar los corazones de quienes las variantes más cañeras hasta el momento en España, con 150 cv, no cumplían sus mínimas expectativas y buscaban más prestaciones.
El 3 MPS no sabemos que motor llevará, pero en otros países se vende con un motor 2.3i 16v con 166 cv (en la foto), similar al del Mazda6, así que quién sabe si lo mismo se animan y utilizan el mismo motor del Mazda6 MPS (un 2.3i 16v turbo con 260 cv e inyección directa), pero algo descafeinado y una potencia entorno a los 230 cv. De momento, no sabemos, pero al menos es una buena noticia saber que recibirá un hermano mayor.

Con ustedes el brutal y apabullante, Mazda3 MPS. Aunque su aspecto no sea distinto del de un Mazda3 normal, este lobo vestido de cordero esconde un tremendo motor 2.3 de inyección directa, el mismo bloque que el que podemos encontrar bajó el capó del MazdaSpeed 6, aunque un poquito más "domesticado". Que no mucho.
Su establo de 246 caballos unido a un par de 380 Nm, unas suspensiones un 60 por ciento más rígido y un difirencial autoblocante prometen más de un susto para algún GTI despistado.
